What were your thoughts about Acrimony, the film by Tyler Perry. Who did you support? And why? Please share your answer in the comments as well.
I tried this with a very sample sizable audience and 85% of the answers kinda proved that we tend to think about ideal selves (who we wished we were) rather than our true selves (who we truly are).
There’s a tendency to be more realistic about our true belief system when judging situations, taking sides, immersing ourselves in the shoes of others, or actively experiencing that situation. We hardly ever tell the truth. We often tell what we believe is true and what we believe is true, may not be the truth, only, our truth.
Surveys don’t give room for context and sometimes, the details may be in the context. Our truth may have more depth beyond agree and disagree. The shades of grey are way beyond “somewhat agree” or “somewhat disagree”.
So, I don’t like surveys. I believe more in conversations and asking non-survey type questions, 1 at a time when they are unsuspecting. When I fill surveys, I think of the most ideal version of myself and pick it. I know surveys have their place especially for reports but when trying to understand my audience, I listen to their reality and engage with follow-up questions.
